Besides, on the off chance that few such encounters are to be total proof for Godââ¬â¢s presence, at that point it must be conceivable to reidentify God for a fact to encounter. I look at both a theoretical and an epistemological contention against these potential outcomes that is gotten from crafted by Richard Gale. I contend that neither of these contentions is effective. For God to be a perceptual specific, he should have an inward life; for God to be reidentified across encounters, he need not exist in measurements undifferentiated from the spatiotemporal. In the event that a supposed encounter of God is to give proof to God's presence, God must be able to be a perceptual specific: a meaningful, suffering object of recognition. On the off chance that few such encounters are to be total proof for God's presence, it must be conceivable to re-distinguish God for a fact to encounter. I need to look at contentions against every one of these conceivable outcomes. These contentions are, individually, a reasonable and an epistemological contention inserted in the compositions of Richard Gale.(1) On Gale's reasonable contention, for us to have a sound idea of an item, O, as a perceptual specific: (1) We should recognize what it implies for O to exist when not saw. After the Intolerable Acts forced by King George on the states, Americans endured an uncalled for rule, where Great Britain took control. In 1775 Patrick Henry acquainted a goals with the Virginia Convention to frame the neighborhood local army to be set up to battle the British. So as to pick up endorsements from his collies, Henry utilizes logical interests witch assist him with encouraging his motivation and start to lead the pack with the utilization of a pressing tone witch actuates his crowd to help his announcement towards war. Patrick Henry starts his discourse by expressing a moral intrigue with the announcement ââ¬Å"Mr. President No man thinks more exceptionally than I do of the energy, just as capacities of the extremely commendable gentlemenâ⬠¦. However, various men frequently observe a similar subject in various lights. â⬠At this point, Patrick Henry shields his situation as a loyalist; he utilizes the word ââ¬Å"lightâ⬠to present the possibility that light speaks to truth and profound enlightenment. By doing this, he is adjusting his perspective on the need to battle with Godââ¬â¢s reason. Likewise one can infer that Henry is certain of what he is introducing on this day, he exploits his capacities and realizes that battling war is the way that prompts freedom. Proceeding with his discourse Henry utilizes another moral intrigue, he proclaims ââ¬Å"It is just along these lines that we can want to show up at truth, and satisfy the incredible obligation which we hold to God and our countryâ⬠by the utilization of this words Henry makes an intrigue of power, to the authority of God and bid that demonstrates his position that shows him as a Christian. By this he endeavors to transmit that what he says is that battling for opportunity is Godââ¬â¢s truth and that it is an obligation to both God and nation. Subsequent to building up and moral intrigue, he utilizes legendary suggestion, which he abstract looks at how the British are directing sentiments toward the pilgrims which are promising bogus expectations, ââ¬Å"listen to the tune of that alarm till she changes us into beastsâ⬠(Henry), and by this utilization of words simultaneously Henry makes an enthusiastic intrigue since he transmit dread, implying that the states will be under British standard for eternity. Henry Changes subject and makes an enthusiastic summary, he confers by saying ââ¬Å"Are we arranged to be of the quantity of the individuals who having eyes see not, and having ears hear not, the things which so almost concern their worldly salvation. â⬠(Henry). By utilizing the words ââ¬Å"nearlyâ⬠and ââ¬Å"concernâ⬠Henry endeavors to make in the pioneers a feeling of dread, since he realizes that colonistsââ¬â¢ objective is arriving at paradise. What's more Henry utilizes a Biblical mention to help this announcement; this originates from Ezekiel 12:2 which says that ââ¬Å"those who canââ¬â¢t see and canââ¬â¢t hear reality with regards to God will lose their profound salvationâ⬠(Bible and God). Moreover Henry builds a Biblical mention ââ¬Å"I have yet one light by which by feet are guided, and that is the light of experienceâ⬠(Henry). Emblematically he utilizes the selection of words like ââ¬Å"experience a lampâ⬠, he says is that that ââ¬Å"experienceâ⬠or ââ¬Å"lightâ⬠will show the route for the future, much the same as the sacred text which says that Godââ¬â¢s word is a ââ¬Å"lamp unto thy feet and a light unto thy pathâ⬠(Bible). Yet in addition this is a moral intrigue since it shows him as a profound individual and a genuine devotee. Henry keeps utilizing numerous moral interests all through his discourse. Articulating his assertion decision, Henry expresses ââ¬Å"Is it that deceptive grin with which out appeal has been of late gotten? â⬠(Henry). He says that the colonistsââ¬â¢ request have been met with ââ¬Å"an slippery grin. â⬠The utilization of the words ââ¬Å"insidious smileâ⬠makes a moral intrigue since it infers that the British are tricking the settlers into accepting that they will follow up on these petitions in a positive way, however it is extremely just a snare to hold them under their standard. Henry presents non-serious inquiries to incited his crowd and make dreadful idea for them to begin acting. He is driving the settlers to consider their contentions and through the decisive sentences, he denies their contentions right away. Henry gives proof in his inductive contention as he refers to the activities which the pioneers have taken to get the British to react to a portion of their requests which likewise makes a coherent intrigue. Henry presents his proof in a progression of equal free conditions. With the equal structures he shows that all activities are similarly significant. Henry delays verbalizing his discourse with the restricting contention that the pioneers are feeble with the utilization of a moral intrigue. He articulates, ââ¬Å"But when will we be more grounded? â⬠(Henry). Once more he makes an enthusiastic intrigue through his depiction of the result of holding up until they are more grounded, for example, inquiring as to whether they will be more grounded. Carrying on Henry announces ââ¬Å"when a British watchman will be positioned in each house. â⬠He makes an alarming picture in allegorically contrasting their sitting tight and seeking after somebody. He continue proceeding with non-serious inquiries like ââ¬Å"Lying flatly on their backs and embracing the deceptive apparition of expectation until their foes have bound their hand and foot? â⬠(Henry). As of now once more, he figuratively alludes to trust as not being genuine apparition yet a picture of bondage is stretched out here as he alludes to the pilgrims being ââ¬Å"bound hand and footâ⬠which is a similitude for their absence of opportunity under British guideline. Henry by and by comes to his meaningful conclusion of moral intrigue and furthermore enthusiastic contrasting British principle and passing by saying, ââ¬Å"but concerning me, give me freedom, or give me demise! â⬠(Henry). Henry utilizes an equal structure in an exclamatory sentence to show that freedom is similarly as important and alluring as death which is damaging and bothersome yet additionally still keeps his picture as a dedicated nationalist. By resembling them in a decent sentence, he says that the result will be either and there can be no trade off. He finishes his theme here of looking at servitude, absence of opportunity on account of British guideline with death. Patrick Henry works down his discourse of impact by effectively and compellingly enunciated his help for war with incredible Britain through efficient contentions and full of feeling utilization of analogy, embodiment, consistent thinking, logical addressing and increasingly significant enthusiastic intrigue. He reasons that the provinces need opportunity, and solicitation back their autonomy from Britain. sylviawalker166http://www.blogger.com/profile/00500691335898595669noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6202733926113707264.post-54161782797027365462020-08-21T21:10:00.001-07:002020-08-21T21:10:31.459-07:00Responding to the Ethical Challenges faced by Nike Essay1.The organization (Nike) came up short on the capacity to screen the working states of their suppliersââ¬â¢ processing plants. Because of the way that contender organizations were purchasing in on their providers they didnââ¬â¢t have a preferred position or edge to screen the poor working conditions in these processing plants. They were slandered upon by the UN and NGOââ¬â¢s for having their items produced in nations where working conditions were poor and there was no observing of appropriate treatment of representatives and requirement of Human Rights. The Korean providers, who spoke to Nike, were charged by work lobbyist and NGOââ¬â¢s ofâ being harsh to laborers. This without anyone else was against ââ¬Å"The Nike Code of Conduct.â⬠2.The Nike Corporation likewise confronted gave with NGOââ¬â¢s and work activists about paying laborers low wages in Indonesia. Their Korean providers didnââ¬â¢t not pay laborers the lowest pay permitted by law and attempted to swindle the Indonesian government by arguing monetary hardship, with the goal that they wouldnââ¬â¢t need to pay the laborers a unimportant $ 1.00 US comparable compensation. At the point when blamed for what was happening, a head supervisor didnââ¬â¢t imagine that it was the companyââ¬â¢s capacity to screen work infringement. Anyway in a significant turnaround and I am certain after that administrator being denounced for that announcement and negligence for the companyââ¬â¢s morals, they taught the Indonesian providers to build the laborers pay. 3.They confronted issues with Child Labor in Pakistan. In June of 1996, Life Magazine put Nike amidst hopelessness, which caused a variety of allegations about kid work. They distributed a photograph of a multi year old kid, sewing a soccer ball. Sialkot a city in Pakistan produces soccer balls for Nike and their rivals. In any case, because of the mayhem by NGOââ¬â¢s, worker's guilds and shopper bunches they provoked to force sanctions against the buying of this item by the organization. The organization thus, endured a big cheese and took in an exercise in globalization, human rights, worldwide work laws and their corporate obligation. 4.Their activities in Vietnam represented some natural, wellbeing and security issues. One of their Korean temporary workers (once more) working in Vietnam was looked in an issue where and NGO help prod a review by Ernst and Young which discovered elevated levels of Toulene, which is dangerous compound that makes harm the CNS, liver, kidney and causes eye and skin disturbances. The concoction was discharged in the plant which represented a risk to the wellbeing of laborers. Representatives were not given appropriate PPE. This was in direct infringement of OSHA guidelines and furthermore once more, ââ¬Å"The Nike Code of Conduct.â⬠5.Nikeââ¬â¢s negative standpoint to their partners about their providers represented a genuine risk to the association. Despite the fact that their providers were the ones that were associated with these moral issues, it despite everything considered the organization. Shoppers are concerned distinctly with a brand and not a provider behind the brand. Likewise, Nike was answerable for their suppliersââ¬â¢ activities because of them not observing their working norms, finance, human rights and so forth. Because of all the negative media, NGO and buyer consideration, it made Nike free a few agreements with different colleges gracefully them with outfits, hardware and footwear and so forth. In light of my friendââ¬â¢s inquiries concerning the legitimacy of the cases that are against Nike, I would initially need to disclose to him that I esteem the trustworthiness of my manager. Be that as it may, since this inquiry pose to me what I would state secretly, and we are dear companions, I would be to some degree attempt genuine to him, and disclose to him how I felt, simply because the data that was expressed in these cases were made open because of ardent media inclusion and the review led by Ernst and Young. Being that the cases are substantial I would enlighten him concerning my emotions dependent on the data accessible to people in general. I would at first request that he disclose to me the amount he knows and afterward dependent on that make an investigation of the circumstance, and consider morally what I am conscious of state or discussion about, being that I am as yet utilized with the association and the terms of which we maintain or implicit rules. I would address every contention explicitly dependent on the charges that we are confronted with apparently and keep up a reasonable and succinct objective of remembering my dependability to my boss. Being that we are being accused for infractions completed by a provider I would tell my companion that, we didn't know about the current circumstance right now however we are investigating it since we bolster Human Rights, Child Labor laws, Unionization and reasonable compensation framework. Our corporate set of accepted rules, ââ¬Å"The Nike Code of Conductâ⬠is accessible to any individual who wishes to think about it, so I would tell my companion this is the thing that our organization holds on and since my work with the organization I have realized that they are basically and authorized. Being that we couldn't genuinely be available in Indonesia, Pakistan and different nations of which this denounced provider hasâ committed these Human Rights infringement on workers, and stres s again that we were ignorant of the circumstance, how might we be accused. I will likewise make certain to fortify to him the way that he should realize that when the media gets a trace of data that could prompt the charges of a multi-billion dollar association how they could make a ââ¬Å"ant resemble an elephant.â⬠Likewise, after learning of such infringement and treatment of these laborers, my association stepped in and not just reproved this provider for attempting to swindle the legislature of Indonesia out of paying the lowest pay permitted by law, yet in addition to the laborers. In light of our alliance with NGOââ¬â¢s and our pledge to corporate duty I would make certain to illuminate him that we have made groups, for example, an activity group to screen natural, wellbeing and security issues. We likewise created groups to screen the work rules and working states of the laborers of our providers in these underdeveloped nations. Thus, in the event that we missed the mark on our checking strategies, our association with work activists, NGOââ¬â¢s and the UN will ensure that we deal with our mix-ups that were made because of these charges. Being this is my dear companion, I need to remember that I am a worker first to this organization and keeping in mind that I am utilized there. On the off chance that I state an inappropriate thing, or he sees it in the incorrect way I could remain to free my activity or perhaps be esteemed an informant to the association. Despite the reality, Nike was accused in a roundabout way for these infringement however they despite everything assumed the liability to attempt to address their errors that the association ought to have known about. I am certain that if my companion is a ââ¬Å"good friendâ⬠they would or ought to comprehend that I can't abuse my standards. Other than that dependent on the help of the charges made to the organization I am certain he would be progressively instructed since I gave him my knowledge on the cases. The triple base procedure that I would recommend that Nike utilize would be progressively principled to ecological, wellbeing and security issues, moral issues with respect to their partners and investors (inner and outside) and Human Rights. In spite of the fact that their corporate set of accepted rules tends to this, they have to strengthen their principles to evade the sort of circumstances that was talked about for this situation study. Regarding IKEA way to deal with their moral practice, had Nike been moreâ observant about the issues with the provider after the principal occurrence happened the others could have most likely been maintained a strategic distance from. When IKEA realized of what was happening with the provider towards the working conditions, ecological issues and the Human Rights Violations in regards to Child work, they stepped in to redress the circumstance right away. Nike just did as such after work activists, NGOââ¬â¢s and worker's organizations and so on got included. From my examination of things, they ought to have been more proactive as opposed to receptive. Starbucks way to deal with things was to some degree like IKEA, yet Starbucks focused on their duty to social obligation by perspective about their partners. Nike then again, appeared to be progressively devoted to their investors the creation of product. They did achieve being a multi-billion dollar organization in a short space of time, however at what cost? It accompanied gigantic repercussions of Human Rights infringement as youngster work and came up short on laborers. They didnââ¬â¢t address these issues in the correct way, something that Starbucks did and defeated the claims against them. Nike needs to designate these issues in their association in like manner to authorize work laws and natural laws to their providers. For this situation study, the provider was situated in Korea, however had activities in Indonesia, Pakistan and other underdeveloped nations. They went into these nations, attempted to control the legislature by method of tricking them into permitting laborers to get beneath the lowest pay permitted by law. Likewise, principles in the work environment were not upheld in the best possible way. The association needs to flexibly laborers with the best possible Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), which is commanded by Occupational Health and Safety Administration (OSHA). The organization additionally needs to keep up an appropriate relationship with the diverse NGOââ¬â¢s, work commissions, worker's organizations and shopper activists in these nations. This can help them in the checking procedures of these providers to guarantee that issues are being dealt with in the correct manner. It can likewise help spare costs that the organization pays to screens, for instance temporary workers. Nike can execute the cash they spare into a program that handles the moral issues of laborers, since I am certain they donââ¬â¢t have a human resourcesâ department and a morals commission to contact with their issues of concern. I am certain this could expand their profitability sylviawalker166http://www.blogger.com/profile/00500691335898595669noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6202733926113707264.post-18103290386121233242020-07-09T16:05:00.001-07:002020-07-09T16:05:03.096-07:00Kids in Parks à Summertime is a wonderful time of the year. Itââ¬â¢s endemic to our culture, and the diagnosis is Nature Deficit Disorder, a term coined by Richard Louv in his book, Last Child in the Woods, to describe the modern childââ¬â¢s lack of familiarity with the natural world. Fortunately, there is a remedy to these summer doldrums. The National Park Service offers a wonderful program targeted towards fourth-grade students and their families called Kids in Parks. In any economy, the highly achieving individuals are often recognized more than the ordinary ones yet the economy would always depend on both to determine its productivity. The United Statesââ¬â¢ outstanding relations with corporations from all over the world has made it the main station for international politics. ââ¬ËGlobalââ¬â¢, as it sounds, is worldwide therefore the name was preferably changed to Global political economy from international political economy, which sounded more of that within related states. It has various approaches that collaborate the political and economic factors which include those on Marxââ¬â¢ and state approach. According to Marx, it is observed that the private sector is likely to overtake the government in taking ch arge of the economy. The best way to begin discussing this ideas would be through looking at the foundation of this topic; ââ¬Å"the liberal approachâ⬠, whereby the economists on the same included those in support of the government control as well as those who do not support government involvement in the market. In Karlââ¬â¢s discovery, he argued that there was much more in any market apart from just setting market price to determine how much would be sold and ordered. He pointed that opinion from the people was also necessary and everyone was free to choose what they desire since in any nation, there is always a link between the economic, social and political situations. However, he still thought that if an economyââ¬â¢s market was self-regulating, it would lead to a large social disruption such as uneven distribution of income, unsolvable arguments when adjustments needs to be done and dormancy in foreign companies than the local ones. Karl further watched and realized that the change in international market system can also be explained in two processes that seem interconnected. He started that in the case where everyone is free to choose what he or she wants then later the dominators in the economy decide to make their move politically. This new political pressures will contradict the path of reforms. This would later result in formation of resistance groups that will project their desires and demand a new form of rules and controlling parties in the economy, something that would lead to globalizing of markets through social relations among nations. Often everything that came to be in this worlds has someone or something behind it. In our case we have Richardo and Smith, the original heroes of the liberal approach. Smith preferred a situation where te government was never involved but only the price would influence the market behavior. Similar to Richardo who also agreed that a free market would allow each person to enjoy whatever they get based on their strategies. They both believed that this would be to the benefit of the whole world. Smith believed that productivity would increase in a case where every individual is given a task that they can perform at their very best. As opposed to Karl, an economy where the state is not in control, then the economy would grow. However, the increasing division of labor has led to global inequity in this modern era. As well-known, man is not an island therefore in this world it is common to find countries collaborating on the surplus produced. A good example is oil. Therefore the policies of trading formed tends to be collaboration with other countries. For example, the UN which benefited from working with the Greenpeace. Liberals tend to always give room for criticizing as well as positive remarks. Some see the benefit of competition among states and many companies of different nations while others see the shortcomings of trying to change the global behavior of companies. A better way of describing social change agents would be by saying that they are laborers who depend on the economy for productivity. Its modified version would be that in this present age, the workforce of a nation can decide to work for another country where their skills are needed. This is opposed to the past where all production and its factors could only operate within the nation of origin without moving out of the border. In any developing nation, change is inevitable since itââ¬â¢s so clear how technology has enabled interactions among enterprises and further their growth from just a nation based firm to a worldwide operating firm. Financial literacy is very key in any personââ¬â¢s life regardless of their career, current financial status, business state or type among others. In 2008, it was noted that the failure of any countryââ¬â¢s banking system and irresponsibility of the high income earners in any society would lead to a bad financial crisis of any country and later the entire globe. Afterwards, operating firms were to reform and fit in the new budgets after reducing their cost of production. The owners of the firms were also requested to support the new strategies to support the government in increasing job opportunities. The underprivileged have also attempted to befriend the abled societal people to form movements that help people in communities around the globe. This has helped bring about redistribution of income and equity thus promoting globalization. Migration as a whole has increased the interactions among people from different countries. Polanyiââ¬â¢s argument becomes useful in this context where people move from one country to another. Often migration of people is highly restricted as compared to transport of goods and services. Thus it is highly controlled for example for one to migrate to Canada he or she must have distinguishing skills to obtain an entry visa. Similarly, the availability of space is taken into consideration. However, as time went by these restrictions reduced thus easier for one to move to a new country. There comes another category of the billionaireââ¬â¢s club in every nation who play a big role in the decision making process in their governments. These people are not only known for wealth but also for their ability to solve problems in their societies such as reducing poverty, promoting health, enhancing education and democracy. Surprisingly, their charity and business activities are run globally. They often use their wealth for the economic and social gain. They use their potential to benefit the larger society that could be a threat or a blessing to the business. Therefore, they ensure that they upheld their societal interests before their personal ones. As we all know, entrepreneurship is about solving problems and then the rest comes as a reward. A good example is where Zuckerberg makes billions of US dollars from donating Facebook shares of couples to many global projects. Therefore, the company lots of profits and at the same time donates to some of the government issues. Limited companies can freely transfer their shares as compared to the unlimited ones which have many restriction rules. Thus service and good profit would always go handy in any business. The activities of successful entrepreneurs often are guided by creating a global social impact then fame and wealth often comes as a plus. As it was observed at the current world economic forum, the main aim of such yearly meeting usually are to discuss the social activities being done about the main problems in this world. In the 2016 meeting held in Canada, the story was the same, the desire to reduce the gap between the private and the public to create a comfortable world where e... sylviawalker166http://www.blogger.com/profile/00500691335898595669noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6202733926113707264.post-43452633656550928982020-05-19T22:51:00.001-07:002020-05-19T22:51:03.419-07:00Allusions in Bartleby the Scrivener by Herman Melville Essay In ââ¬Å"Bartleby, the Scrivenerâ⬠the author, Herman Melville, uses indirect references to hint to many historical, literary, and biblical events. ââ¬Å"Bartleby, the Scrivenerâ⬠contains many allusions about important events that help connect this fictional story to actual events in Melvilleââ¬â¢s time period, before, and beyond. Melville uses allusions frequently throughout ââ¬Å"Bartleby, the Scrivenerâ⬠to help build connections with the real world and the fictitious world of this short story. One of the biggest allusions in ââ¬Å"Bartleby, the Scrivenerâ⬠is the comparison of Bartleby to Jesus. In the story the narrator is confronted by the new owner of the law offices. He asks the narrator if he knows who Bartleby is. The narrator replies with ââ¬Å"I certainlyâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦He rolled a big stone in front of the entrance to the tomb. Then he went awayâ⬠(NIV, Matthew 27:60). Cicero, a very successful Roman politician, also plays a very significant role in the story of ââ¬Å"Bartleby, the Scrivenerâ⬠. The narrator has a bust of Cicero in his office connecting the two cultures; the Western and Eastern cultures however are strikingly different. At around 100 B.C. Cicero led the Roman Empire in a very structured and civilized way. The Roman Empireââ¬â¢s governmental structure is very similar to the United Stated government because they both include three branches. The Judiciary, the Executive, and the Legislative branches are included in both civilizations; however the Romanââ¬â¢s devised this system more than 2,000 years before the United States. They also both have elected officials who are either elected or are appointed by the Consuls. The Roman Government was very orderly and organized, the exact opposite of how it was in Bartlebyââ¬â¢s office. This small detail in the story creates more contrast and helps us better understand the changes that can happen in such a short amount of time. The law office was a very orderly place, it just takes one person to throw any well oiled system off balance. The inclusions of these allusions are very subtle and are not always obvious, however Melville took the time to add these into the story to further build connections with the story world and the real world to make the storyShow MoreRelatedThe Theme Of Herman MelvillesBartleby, The Scrivener1084 Words à |à 5 PagesHerman Melvilleââ¬â¢s short story ââ¬Å"Bartleby, the Scrivenerâ⬠reveals different themes such as isolation and human morality test. For example the iteration of thou at 4.2.11, the device ploce, works to construct conversational ease; at the same time the repetition of words with one or more in between, or diacope, although similar to ploce, has a very insistent and desperate effect, as in Cleopatras help at 4.15.13-14.(Sylvia Adamson, et al., Reading Shakespeares Dramatic Language: A Guide. Game over, man, game over. Zeds dead, baby, Zeds dead. All you do is chuck in somebodys name or their title and repeat. The effect is to put in a bit of emphasis, a certain finality, on the second word. . . .The other main form of diacope is the elaboration, where you chuck in an adjective. From sea to shining sea. Sunday bloody Sunday. O Captain! My Captain! Human, all too human. From harmony, from heavenly harmony . . . . or Beauty, real beauty, ends where intellectual expression begins. This form gives you a feeling both of precision (were not talking about fake beauty) and crescendo (its not merely a sea, its a shining sea).(Mark Forsyth, The Elements of Eloquence: How to Turn the Perfect English Phrase. The first positive effect that steroidsââ¬â¢ provide would be the fact that steroids help speed up recovery time. When a person is heavily stressed Cortisol is produced to help the body and mind handle the stress. However, because cortisol is so strong; in the process of trying to relieve stress it also damages muscle tissue and slows down the time it takes for your body to recuperate. This is where steroids come in, ââ¬Å"Steroids help to reduce the production of cortisol when your body is stressed. They can be used to help you recover from injuries or just to allow you to exercise moreâ⬠(Swain, 2007, para. 1). In addition, steroids when taken correctly can be used to treat medical conditions such as osteoporosis, anemia, arthritis, and even some forms of cancer. Steroids increase the production of red blood cells, which successfully effects the tre ating of anemia. They help increase bone density, so they are useful for patients suffering from osteoporosis. Steroids are also used to treat blood disorders, arthritis, and some types of cancers (Swain, 2007, para. 1). Another positive attribute of steroids would be that they help to increase muscles and build strong bones (Swain, 2007, para. 3). In the movie, Billy, Chelsea and Norman, three of the main characters symbolize the three stages of development by specific behaviors related to biosocial, cognitive, and psychosocial developments. It was necessary for the three characters to break down during hard situations in their lives to start appreciating the different seasons of their lives, the transition from adolescence to adulthood to aging and the people around them. In this paper I will discuss how these characters develop as individuals through the lenses of biosocial, cognitive and psychosocial development, and I will also end my discussion by explaining howâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦This ability of reasoning leads adolescent to be rebellious, because they can understand that adultââ¬â¢s rules are not necessarily legitimate all the time. For instance, ââ¬Å"A 14-years- old becomes acutely aware o f the difference between what adults say they do and how they really act.â⬠Billy showed this kind of cognitive ability, and he was rebellious towards his father Billy Ray and especially to Norm. He said to Norman ââ¬Å"donââ¬â¢t tell me what to doâ⬠. Adolescents develop a hostile perception about adults. They become critical about their parents and the community they live in as a whole. Another cognition maturity that adolescents reach is the development of adolescent egocentrismââ¬âthe distorted feeling that oneââ¬â¢s own action is the centre of everything. In the movie, Billy showed this distorted feeling. He wants to proof to everyone that he can do anything that an adult is able to do. For example, he wants to steer the bout and explore the world by himself. Psychosocial development addresses the interaction between psychological and social factors. Billy was in Ericksonââ¬â¢s psychosocial stageââ¬âIdentity versus role confusion. In the beginning, he seemed confused about his identity, and he did not get along with Norman. In what way can tourism be ethical? Answer: 1.Ethical dilemma: Good results are bad results 1.1Ethical issues One of the major ethical issues arises here for the professor Ballistico is to whether resist or to publish the problems in the frozen food items of FoodCorp. This is because foodCorp is one of the major fund raiser in the Big City University where the professor does its research (Bertella, 2013). 1.2 Options available One of the major options is to tell the foodcorp privately about the Rotnever and long life. Apart from that, second option is to publish about the problem in Food Corp products. Finally, keep quiet about the matter in order to save the Big City funding from the FoodCorp. 1.3 Ballistico should proceed He should publish the problems of food additives within the FoodCorp frozen products because, just for sake of money, he should not play with human lives (Bertella, 2013). Apart from that he is professor he teaches the students, his morale and ethics must stays with the future of the Big City University which is to go ahead tell the truth. 1.4 Wider aspect of funding Companies like FoodCorp fund the universities in order to creates goodwill and wanted to be associated with community service in order to influence the customer base. These are just their corporate gimmick to charity and gain the popularity of their brands. 1.5 Critical assessments Corporation are now playing the government roles to manage to fund the colleges in order to increase the community service by donating huge amount of money to secure the future of students (Butcher, 2008). However, this is also one of the major corporate gimmicks to do CSR activities in order to save tax and crates strong brand awareness among the coming generations. 2. Stuck in a middle 2.1 Right thing to do in this situations As a civil engineer, the right thing to do in this situation is to talk to the director regarding the behavior of his manager rather than resisting. Here the manager of the civil engineer is been using theory of egoism in order to maintains its self interest rather than giving opportunity. The theory of normative egoism explains the position where the owner or manager sees their own interest (Hartman et al. 2014). 2.2 What would I do I would have done the same thing because the manager is bullying and not at supportive to its employees rather he discourages them. I would have write letter to the direct regarding the bad use of corporate power on its manager (Hudson and Miller, 2006). However, there is chances of losing the job and may be director would support the manager because his experience and for his huge body of work. 2.3 Factors the influence decision making One of the major factors would be scope of growth and the learning within the work place. Secondly, lack of transparency within the management which will lead to very bad consequence in future. 2.4 Readers Yes, most of the employee who are working in the organisation in order to learn and get experience would obviously agree with the thought of complaining to the directors or leave the company (Jackson and Barber, 2014). However, there would smaller section of people who would rather interest in sitting and passing their time rather than gaining skills would not agree with my thought. 3. Clear code of grey zone 3.1Ethical problem in this case Ethical problems face is to maintain the code of conduct which prohibits the employees to use the company materials for their personal use. Ethical problem here is whether or not to take action against the Paul for using of the web access and prevent personal use of company. 3.2 Possible courses of actions Suspend the Paul for breaching the global code of ethics to limited use web access. Apart from that, forgive the Paul as he is been already been embarrassed. 3.3 Utilitarian Perspective This theory of Utilitarian gives overall pleasure and pain for all concerned. Although the Paul is expert in his work but by suspending him would be maximize the positive outcomes for the largest number of people and negative would be for the small number of people (MacCannell, 2012). This will create examples for everyone to follow the code of conduct during the use of company materials. 3.4 What would I do I would rather suspend the employee so that it set out the examples for everyone so that everyone uses strictly follow the certain discipline and code of conduct while doing anything bad. 3.5 Benefit and limitations One of the major benefits would be that everyone will be very careful while using the office equipment before using it for personal use (Malone et al. 2014). However, company would also looses the productive employee and employee would be very much careful which again will decrease their productivity. 4. Who cares who shares 4.1 ethical issues Ethical issues here is to share the information of the company with outsider or not. 4.2 Main stakeholders Major stakeholders are company, share holders, employees and the owners. Owners and the employee has major shares as soon as the news published the company will be affected badly which results in to lower profitability (Meghani, 2011). Shareholder will also be affected as they have invested in the company because of its growth and goodwill in the market. 4.3 Decision making Ethically I would not disclose the happenings of the company with outsider because it will be trail to charge against insider trading which is unethical way to help the friends. 4.4 Difference in acting and information I would be ready with answers with press and acknowledge the company on the half of the company along with selling of my own shares which is very much ethical. However, passing the information would be unethical and creates whistle blowing (Ruhi Yaman and Gurel, 2006). 5. Ethical Tourism 5.1.Ethical Tourism Ethical tourism simply means responsible tourisms. It is term which has been evolved since the tourism sector has been developed. Ethical tourism encourages both the consumer and industry to follows the certain code of conduct while travelling or guiding the tourist. Ethical tourism also helpful and benefit to the living families within the visiting areas (Butcher, 2008). Tourism is been one of the most growing sector for the government specifically for the UK government. Ethical tourism offers various forms of long term sustainability which would benefit to local communities and services offered by the tourisms are sources locally. Some of the features of ethical tourism are been considered while travelling the places are social, injustice, human rights , animal welfare and the existing environment (Ethics.unwto.org, 2015). For instance, the case study of Responsibletravel .com who are indirectly involved in the organising the holidays by using tour companies to ensure they benefit the local communities and reduce the social negativity and maintain the ecological balance (Ruhi Yaman and Gurel, 2006). One of the best methods is to use pre screens holidays in order to increase the funds for the local communities in order to build the infrastructure. As per the WTO, global code of ethics has been formed in 2001, where the code of conduct given for the traveler and the tourist company. 5.2. Services being offered and is this a real market Some of the major services given by the ethical tourism are given below: Economic prosperity: One of the major benefits which has been earned through the ethical tourism are long term fair pay for the employees by asking the trip advisor to employee the locales and having manufacturers food (Meghani, 2011). Apart from that, funds available for the local communities by selling the product and services for tourism locally. Sustainable tourism should be given to the every holiday sold and also offers various opportunities to customers to make the travelling more learning and prosperous. Social equity: Social equity here, destinations are offering the safe and very much satisfying with the new experiences while having the positive opportunity to interact with the locales equally (Malone et al. 2014). For instance, Responsibletourismtravel.com not only given economic prosperity but also ties the cover the range of social issue and the economic issues arises within the places. Environmental and cultural protections: Apart from the above, the ethical tourism also been helping to conserve the ancient culture, monuments and traditions of the places. Along with that, it also maintains the wildlife and carbon emissions by encouraging the tourist to use camp in the jungle and save electricity and also make them understand importance of flora and fauna (MacCannell, 2012). However, ethical tourism current is not a real market but its slowly going to be developing as the real market once the most of the UK tour operators develop policies on the responsible tourism (Jackson and Barber, 2014). Currently the tourism market is being run by the various NGOs in UK. 5.3. In what way can tourism can be ethical Tourism can be ethical, if the tourist and the companies follow the some of the strict norms which will help the organisations to cater large market share. Some of the major ways to maintain the ethical tourism are given below: Charitable policy: One of the major policies would charitable policy. The tour operators should organise the charitable programme in order to increase the fund for the local places which will be helpful in building the local infrastructures (Hudson and Miller, 2006). The programme will also educate the people to educate them about them places and the issues that people are facing in those places. Apart from that, ethical tourism contributes towards the mutual understanding enough scope to respect the people and societies. There have been numerous occasions the certain sustainable factor development can be seen while contributing towards the less fortunate places which are yet to be discovered. Social policy: Social policy would be the helpful to channel the income to the local government. Usually the local people are given here opportunity to benefit from the visit. Some of the major social policy like maintains the real culture and monuments of the visited place along with that making fair payment to the services given by the employees (Hartman et al. 2014). Environmental Policy: Another major policy would be the environmental policy which will help to protect the sustainably of the local flora and fauna along the saving the local culture and the tradition by following the environmental norms policy by WTO (Butcher, 2008). 5.4. Potential activities for ethical tourists Ecotourism: It is one of the major term which has been evolved as ecological tourisms. Developing the destinations where the ethical issues are the major key driver social justice and human rights and animal welfare are some of the major emerging factors which for the both consumer and the industry. Take time to research the destinations: NGOs and the other major companies are needed to search the destinations which are being slowly on the verge of extinctions (Bertella, 2013). For instance Responsibletrip advsiro.com is some of the sites who are being responsibly looking to search the places which are less fortunate and deprived. Reference list Journals Bertella, G. Answer: Executive Summary The particular chapter deals with the operation management system of the John Lewis. An organisation needs to establish a relationship of trust and confidence that it can understand the requirements and cater its best possible way that is to implement SANDAC within the JLP. The particular research is conducted in the reference to JLP operation management and its process in making the organisation successful. Initially, JLP uses the Omni form of operation management where the company has faces tough to survives in the rising demand of the consumers. Apart from that, with the help of SANDAC, company will be able manage and control the operation system by tote bin via conveyor. Most of the companies are facing issues like efficiency, ergonomics and service level can be improved in future if the company uses the automated system for the business. Introduction John Lewis partnership is one of the UK largest business houses. It is still lies in the 10th position in retail sector. Company is known for its quality clothing line and value pricing strategies in the market. Company has more than 28 departmental stores and turnover worth of the 7.4 billion (Fliedner, 2012). The company has been able to generate high sales even in the time of recessions and has plans to open more than 28 stores in UK. Company has semi automated distribution centre which helps the business to growing the international and level market of UK. With the rise in the distribution of the centre in year to coming shows that, company logistics is very much automated and company has been able to generate high investment within the business. The study will analyse the existing technology of logistics of the distribution network (Jackson and Jones, 2005). Reason for success for the John Lewis partnership John Lewis partnership is been one of the major pillar for the success of the company. The stakeholder like employees and the mangers and customer has made the company to reach in current positions. The john Lewis partnership is been growing strong every year as the company is able to capture the large customer base within the existing UK market (Shinkle et al. 2004). With the strong relationship with employees is one of the major reasons for its success in the past and present. John Lewis is been owner one of the major stakeholders who are looking to manage and control improvise its logistics and distribution network which has created the large customer base for the company (Trent, 2008). With the variety in the product availability gives a company edge to grow more in compare to its competitors like Zara and HM. Apart from the above the critical success factor for the company is being its marketing strategy tool. The company has implemented the penetration pricings strategy to targ et the medium and large customer group in the current market share (Krugman et al. 2010). Market share 2011 2012 Marks Spencer 11.7% 11% Primark 8.5% 8.1% Asda 6.9% 6.9% Top shop 6% 5.51% John Lewis 5.54% 6% TK maxx 3.2% 3.3% HM 3.4% 2.9% Matalan 2.9% 2.5% Graph 1: Market share of the John Lewis (Source: Bryman and Bell, 2012, pp-123) From the above, it has been found that, market share of the John Lewis is been very much pleasing and growing as per the above graph. The company is able to outperform its contemporaries like HM and TOP shop and Matalan because of its quality and value pricing (Baum, 2003). As the companies like primary is second because of low cost and company has not been able to generate the large customer base which will give poor sales in result in the long run. Therefore one of the major competitors for the company is MS which is very much has large brand value and are remote distribution channel for the company (Bhadur, 2008). However, MS uses price skimming strategies which are why most of the customer are shifting their base and only catering those customer whose earnings is more than 10,000. Alternative considered to maintain the increasing demand of consumer Since the John Lewis demand of the products services is increasing every year. The growth needed to be complimented by the better supply chain would helps to manage the products and service availability (Bisen and Srivastava, 2009). Company is been looking to implement SANDAC which is semi automated supply chain that will help the company to manage and control over the supply chain in order to make sure that items must be picked within time which would reduce the backup store facilities. The warehouse designed to be very much environmental friendly which comprise of solar panel and storm water collection and automated lightening (Chopra and Meindl, 2007). Most of the goods are being packed in the cartons on pallets. With the help of tote bins, company transport its minload to automated storage and with the help of OSR , company is able monitor is products and services within the 10 kilometer range. The storage area comprises 26*1.75 m which is operated with the help of wire guided narrow aisle trucks (Held, 2003). The narrow aisle makes sure that the AS/RS is used to store the tote bins of fast and slow moving lines. There are 13 capable of moving 2 bins at same time. The AS/RS and OSR technology covers the area which helps the John Lewis to manage the store of total 240,000 tote bins. While picking up the order the tote bins conveyor uses bin to bin to picking because there are more than 33 picking stations within the area (Singh, 2009). Each of the picking up stations comprise of the 12 tote bins on a lower level. Finally the picked up bins are being transported by the conveyor to the OSR based buffer store. Since the company has wide variety of products range with more than 350,000 product lines which are ranging from fashion to apparels along with household goods which company has more than 33 picking up stations (Dennis, 2002). Apart from that, company has invested more than 46 million in order to implement SANDC within its existing supply chain. This has enables to reduce the cost of the docks and the warehouses. The business case of John Lewis shows that, company has successfully able to manage and control over its pickings that has made the company to reduce the excess burden of time consuming and has lower the manpower (Liker, 2004). The SANDC is generally operated between two shifts each day but it has potential for the 3 shift each which will helpful for the business to grow and manage its rising demand. Challenges faced by the John Lewis within their supply chain One of the major challenges faced by the company during its time of managing and controlling the supply chain system its growth. Since the mode of operation from the Hawthorne experiment to bricks and mortar which has been changed since the yester years (Bicheno, 2004). The omni form of operational system within the supply chain has been one of the most popular ways of managing the supply chain. The omni channel system has helps the major retailers for fundamentally redesigning its supply chain. This leads the industry has undergone changes due to growth in the supply chain (Nicholas and Soni, 2006). Since the click and collect the service has been able to manage the supply chain management system within the organizations. The retailer here is able to fulfill the expectation of the customer demand by make sure the supply chain is managed in better way and the 124*7 availability of the products. After the globalization and technology advancement like internet has made the world more G local (Hines, 1994). Therefore, the online retailing has become of the most prominent way to trade the business for the retailers without having the physical store. Since, demand of the online store has been increased from 2009 as the internet user of the nation are also been increased by 43.09% across UK (Hines, 1998). The evolution of e-commerce has made the john Lewis to launch its own online websites which will hale the business to grow and made available to each and every corner of the world. Some of the challenges faced by the omni supply chain are given below: Figure 1: Omni supply chain (Source: ttner, 2005, pp-121) One of the biggest challenges and opportunities faced by the retailer is close the technology gap for the consumers. When more than 50% of retailers does not poses critical supply chain technology in order to fulfill the order for the company (Karlsson and hlstrm,1996). (i)Lack of integration with inventory with the omni channel system: Fulfilling the order for the customers is one of the major job of the operation system. Omni channel system helps the customers to fulfill the orders based on where the customer is located. If the shipment is local then the company will be able to ship the order whereas orders is out of the stations makes the company to make the shipment which take sits twice its time (Andersson, 2006). However, most of the retailer is facing challenges sending of wrongful items which are creating huge lots of problems. Company is not been able to manage and control its inventory system because of omni system is more complicated. It requires large number of inventory and people from a lot of different places in order to send its right products right people. This makes the distribution system more risky and increase in human error (Nicholas and Soni, 2006). Omni supply chain software is communicating e-commerce sales across the globe which helps the company to achieve the large market base. (ii)Integration Issues within the Omni channel of distribution: Although omni channel breaks traditional operational model for the shopping but the consumer are never ever been interested in the supply chain process of the company instead they are interested in customized solution. Integration of the channel implies more visibility into the inventory across the entire enterprise which is not enough by the existing omni technology (Conti et al. 2006). The lack of integration between the server and the inventory to the demand of the consumer can create technological hindrance within the omni retailing. The JLP has faces various kinds of the issues because of the growing customers need, company have failed to send the right products to the right consumer at the right place (Dennis, 2002). However, lack of integration between the distribution channels has made the JLP to manage improper way of operating its business. SANDAC flexibility as per the changing demand With the implementation of SANDAC within the JLP has made company to increase its efficiency within the existing operation system. For instance, a new products of JLP are being weighed , scanned as per the cubic measurement and photographed during the time of managing the operation (Couper et al. 2011). With the help of OSR (Order storage and Retrieval) system are helpful in strong the transported goods from the conveyor. Apart from that goods which are being received by the store in tote bins which is in the current quantities are being pre-advised electronically by the suppliers using the advance shipping notifications (ASN). The pallets will be which be received have the tote bins and are moved by the PPT (Powered applet truck which will de-palletized by the robots (Doukidis and Paul, 1990). This total process of the SANDAC is very much shows the flexibility of the demand of supply chain system which is consistently being working with OSR that helps the JPL to grow more and cater the changing demand of the consumers (Gunasekaran, 1999). SANDAC has works in more than two major shifts which would be helps the JLP to manage its operation system around the UK. Apart from that, SANDAC is capable for more than tow shift which shows its flexibility among the other type of system like omni and the price2 methodology Harris and Harris, 2003). Most of the companies like Zara, MS and HM are using the omni version of the supply chain within their business. Moreover, SANDAC is also been very flexible for the order picking. For instance , JLP has more than 33 pickings out of which each stations comprises of 12 tote bins on lower level which would helps the conveyor to represent the store that needed to be picked (Conti et al. 2006). Besides that, on the higher level of demand, tote bins are brought into two locations in front of the picker. With the help of this flexibility company has options top order high level at same time as lower level of quantity of the products and services. One of the major examples for the flexibility within SANDAC shows that integration between the warehouses takes the products from the 1000 suppliers from small stores. Automated conveyor belts carry hundreds and thousands of the torte boxes from the selves to the workers that will take the times to shoppers (Dennis, 2002). Within the range of more than 10 kilometers of conveyor belts in the area of ware house where the aisle are 75 meter long and 15 meter high and help taken by the cranes that locate and pick up the totes who travels at six meter long in one second shows that automated storage system of the JLP is very much healthy and flexible as per changing demand of the consumers (Liker, 2004). Ways to improve the service of SANDC 1. Effecincey: The existing automated system will increase the efficiency process of the operation system of the JLP as the rise in the demand of the products will be higher in the coming years. The efficiency level of the SANDC is higher in compare to its competitors who are not able to cope with changing demand of the consumers (Hansson, 2006). SANDAC will help the JLP to meet the standards of the customers. The aromatic system will give an competitive advantages and critical success factors for achieving the product availability with less and with the cost effective. With helps of integration process of the automated tote bin has given edge to the company to gain the large customer base via clean and clear operation management (Apte et al. 2011). 2. Service Levels: The automatic system of the SANDC will help to solve the problems of customised operating system as per the company demand. SANDAC service level is more of the technological advancement which helps the JLP to minimize its cost and give the service at right time to the right stores (Apte et al. 2011).. This will also bring the transparency within the service system of the company which will lead to changing demand of the stores which is one of the major critical success factors for the company. This is only can be possible if the system is very much integrated for managing the automatic pilling of the inventory. SANDAC has bridge the gap between supply and demand for the product (McQuaid-Cook and Simons, 1989). 3. Ergonomic Issues: Various ergonomic issues at work place can be arises due to the repetition of the work, manual handlings and designing of the job which may lead to the uncomfortable situation at the workplace. Ergonomics is process of the improving the productivity of the company core business objectives which would lead the company to achieve the higher efficiency (Mustaghis-ur-Rahman, 2007). Ergonomics of the SANDAC will helps the company to reduce the cost. The best ergonomic solution given by the SANDAC represent improve the productivity by designing a job to allow for the right kind of posture , less exertion and fewer motions and which made the work station more efficient. SANDAC improves the best efforts in order to ensure the quality of the products. For instance, JLP labour is able to fasten their work of equipment tightening enough due to high force requirements of the products fixtures (Apsc.gov.au. 2013). Ergonomic helps the business to maintain their best efforts to ensure their health and safety via making the working environment for comfort and reduce the fatigue. 4. Sustainability: Sustainability issues are always with operation system for the company. With the automation cost and paper has been saved by the JLP but the use of electricity has been risen. The machine like SANDAC must be work within the environmental friendly manner in order make the work place more sustainable. In coming future, the more and more of customer are willing to associate themselves with the environmental friendly company, therefore, it is very much important for the company to manage their operation by reducing the waste and control the pollution within the manufacturing to supply chain. The use of the green technology and renewable products helps the company to take larger control over the changing environmental laws (Hamman, 2012). JLP has been using the solar panels which help the organization to manage the sustainability by reducing the use of thermal power energy to solar energy. Apart from that, storm water collection is another major warehouse designed which would indicate that company is more of the environment friendly. With the help of automated lighting control system has been helping the 15% of the energy conservations within its warehouse (John Lewis, 2015). Pre-requisite necessities or the operation of lean systems The rising pressure on the organisation to reduce cost and improve quality is making many companies to choose Lean tools and techniques as an advance solution for improvement in the performance of the company (Mustaghis-ur-Rahman, 2007). Over the last few years, Lean has been emerged as one of the most impactful procedure to increase the organisations efficiency by decreasing the operations. Figure 2: Pre-requisite tool for the lean management (Source: Apte et al. 2011, pp-143) Sorting (Seri): As discussed by (Trent, 2008), with the proper arrangement all work area must be sorted. It will help the company to understand the needed works are unnecessary work, which should immediately be discarded. Straighten (Seition): Straighten is to set in order the products and services according to location area of each of the items. With the labels every item will be place in order of usage or unused. All the worker must know where the item are by labelling or by making shadow board that has outline of tools so as to identify its accurate location area (Conti et al. 2006). Shine (Seiso): The work area must be kept physically clean and tidy on a regular basis and the workers should also be scanning the area for anything that is out of place and try to make immediate effort to correct it. Standardize (Seiketsu): Standards must be made or rather develop for the making first 3s so as to ensure that the workers are doing what the company wants/requirements of them (Apte et al. 2011). Sustain (shitsuke): It means maintain uniformity in the practice. All of the steps must be maintained and done in a same way. The routine must be made in a discipline way so that the entire step and process of 5s become a habit for the workers and the organisations (Mustaghis-ur-Rahman, 2007). Conclusion With help of SANDAC, transparency system thinking within the company can measure efficiency. Furthermore, company will be able to measure the efficiency by reducing the cycle time of every operation, simplifying every work by repeatedly making everyone to do the same work and benchmarking will help to measure the JLP of operation management. However, application of SANDAC software system, JLP will be able to manage to achieve goals and objectives of the company via better operating system. As observed form the study of the particular chapter, the researcher was not able to gather knowledge regarding the changing the priority of the company which helps in customised the operation system. Well, imagine living in a country where all women had to follow a very strict dress code. The system consisted of covering your face and body so that you were not seen; this covering was called a burqa. The Taliban were a militia that took control of the small, landlocked country called Afghanistan. They enforced very severe conducts upon women and girls, including not allowing them to work, attend school, or even go outside. The paperback ââ¬ËParvanaââ¬â¢s Journeyââ¬â¢ by Deborah Ellis deals with these issues. Most of this book is set in the afghan wilderness, where there is no food in sight, except for the occasional animal or stream that may trickle by. Mine fields also littler no manââ¬â¢s land. A land mine is a bomb planted in the ground, which explodes if stepped on. The main characters in this tale consist of Parvana, Asif, Leila and Hassan. Parvana is a young girl, at the age of thirteen years. She never gives up hope and is courageous. She steals eggs from a manââ¬â¢s chickens for food, even though she knows that it is wrong. Asif is a young boy about ten years old. Toward Parvana, he is stubborn and annoying. He does not listen to Parvana, and criticizes many things she does. For example, while changing baby Hassanââ¬â¢s diaper; he remarks that she is doing it wrong because he was being fussy. Then, silently and patiently, he takes Hassan and does it the right way. This is what makes him stubborn, because he thinks he knows everything, even though sometimes he does not. Parvana also stumbles upon a young girl named Leila, who is eight years old. Leila is very smart and helpful. She sticks with Parvana and provides her with assistance. The conflict in this story is man versus nature because theyââ¬â¢re living and wandering throughout the Afghanistan wilderness. They need shelter, food and water. Discovering items to suit their needs is not easy at times. Parvanaââ¬â¢s mother, her sister Nooria and Maryam, and her brother Ali were supposed to go to Mazar-e-Sharif before the Taliban took control of the city. Parvana and her father go on a journey to find them. Even after her father dies, she does not hope. She encounters days, sometimes even a week or two without food or water. She takes a baby boy under her wing because his mother had perished in the bombings of the village they inhabited. Soon after she meets Hassan, the baby boy, Parvana reaches a cave where she meets Asif. They had a typical sibling relationship, even though they were not genetically related. The three children struggled to find food and take care of each other. Then they reach Green Valley were they meet Leila. In comparison to the wilderness, Green Valley is a paradise. There was food everyday and a canyon close by. However, all good things end. Green Valley was bombed and the four children returned to wander unknown territory. Hassan, along with the rest, suffer from dehydration and malnutrition. Then they come to a Red Crescent station an internal refugee camp. Red Crescent is the Muslim equivalent to Red Cross. There, Hassan stays in a nursery until he is once again well. When planes drop parcels of food over the camp, people broke out into fights. Leila spotted many more peppered in the mine fields. Sheââ¬â¢d say that the land mines ââ¬Ëliked herââ¬â¢ because sheââ¬â¢d never gotten hurt before. Despite the past, this time she got hurt. Leila died because of the explosion of one of the bombs. An outraged woman came to Parvanaââ¬â¢s side. Amazingly, Parvana knew this woman. It was her mother, whom lived on the other side of the camp. This is where the story ends. I enjoyed reading Parvanaââ¬â¢s Journeyââ¬â¢. I found it entertaining, a book I did not wish to lie down. Where would she get food? Will she continue her journey without her father? Will she abandon Hassan, Asif and Leila because they are not her responsibility? Finally, will she ever find her family? These questions popped up in my head while reading this novel. Respectfully, my uncertainties were acknowledged throughout the novel. From previous readings, I know that the Taliban were a very horrible group. Other novels were much more graphic. For instance, ââ¬ËThe Kite Runnerââ¬â¢ by Khaled Hosseini. ââ¬ËParvanaââ¬â¢s Journeyââ¬â¢ deals with the social conditions of Afghanistan. In my opinion, this book is for mature children. Themes in this novel include death and hope. Younger children may not understand this novel the way it needs to be understood. They may also interpret the events in this book in a juvenile fashion. Therefore, it would be a waste of curriculum time. I could not empathize with Parvana at many times during her tale. Much of what she experienced in Afghanistan would not be experienced in a first-world country like Canada. From this novel, I learned to never give up hope even in the darkest hours of your life because there is always a shed of light at the end of the tunnel. In conclusion, ââ¬ËParvanaââ¬â¢s Journeyââ¬â¢ is a very insightful and interesting novel. sylviawalker166http://www.blogger.com/profile/00500691335898595669noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6202733926113707264.post-61477522686715234432020-04-17T06:48:00.001-07:002020-04-17T06:48:04.665-07:00Sample GRE Essay Prompts - The Key to Writing a Great GRE EssaySample GRE Essay Prompts - The Key to Writing a Great GRE EssayIf you need help writing a sample GRE Essay, then you have come to the right place. Theres no way to measure the return of investment of all that immense effort. Shouldnt there be a way to get more out of it? As someone who has been contributing content online for ages, Ive always been on the lookout for more ways to monetize that effort. Consolidating old content into an online course is a perfect idea. You can turn it into an extra source of income and you can also use it to further promote your brand. Here is a step-by-step guide into re-packaging your old content into a new video course. How to Create an Awesome Online Course By Repackaging Old Content by @seosmarty via @Step 1. Get Organized: Find and Record All Your Content Let's make it straight: This guide is for individuals and businesses that have been producing online content for a while, and not just on their own sites but outside of them too (through expert columns on popular niche outlets and guest blogging). That being said, the first step is to look back and find those content assets you can re-use now. 1.1. Find Brand-Authored Content Now, I realize you probably haven't been recording your company's important URLs diligently throughout the years. And finding them now will probably be next to impossible, so here's a quick workaround for you: Set Google to show you 50-100 results per page Use Google to search articles by you and your team. Use all kinds of search queries, like [author name guest post -site:yoursite.com] - this will exclude your own site from search results ["author name is XXX at your company name"] - this can be part of your writer's guest post byline ["author name * company name"] - this search is useful for those guest authors who slightly vary their byline wording but always make sure their name and your company name will make it to the bio. NOTE: If you only publish your content on your own site and not elsewhere, simple use [SITE:yoursite.com] search on Google. As you move forward, you can attach different terms to this search to target your search more precisely, e.g. [SITE:yoursite.com guide] or [SITE:yoursite.com apple pies] Get more ideas here. Now, useà this Greasemonkey scriptà to extract URLs from search results and easily copy-paste them to add to your search engine using the include-in-bulk option. 1.2. Create a Searchable Database Next, there are two steps to take: Copy paste all those URLs into a Google Spreadsheet, then search more and keep copy-pasting. If you search for several author names (if your company has a few ambassadors publishing content around the web to represent your brand collective expertise), add a separate column for the author name for easier sorting. Now, use sorting options to remove duplicate URLs and clean up the spreadsheet manually too Then copy-paste the whole list into a newà Google Custom search. The beauty of this tool is that you can also add your whole site there for its content to be searchable in your database of brand-focused content. 1.3. Take Note of Frequently-Occurring Topics to Build the Course Around While proceeding with both the steps, look for popular topics you and/or your company authors tend to cover more frequently than others. Take notes of those topics: That's how you are going to brainstorm topics for your future course and its structure. Look for topics that have been covered in much depth in at least 10 articles by you and/or your team. These articles are going to make your course chapters and content is going to be your video scripts, so it's important that you have blogged a lot on them to make your course creation easier. Gathering existing content to create a course? Look for topics that have been covered in much depth...Step 2. Research the Chosen Topic Some More and Come up with the Plan Once you have a solid list of brand-owned resources around one common topic, research the interest and competition. This step can be broken into three important tasks: 2.1. Identify your core term Creating a course is quite a commitment: You want to make sure there's a demand for more information on the chosen topic and you need to brainstorm your competitive advantage: What is it you are building that will allow you to stand out in the crowd? Good old keyword researchà is something I usually resort to whenever I need to dig deeper into a specific topic. I likeà Serpstatà for its big selection of tools to play with. For one, I check how hard it will be to compete for high rankings for my future course. I play with different variations of my topical keywords and use the search filter to restrict results to those containing my main keyword and [course] or [training] in them: Serpstat shows: Search volume (which reflects demand for this particular topic) Keyword difficulty (which reflects how intense the competition is) Both metrics allow me to finally make an educated choice of the core term to build my course around. Recommended Reading: Your Ultimate Content Marketer's Guide to Keyword Research 2.2. Identify the Course Structure Once I am done with choosing my actual final keyword, I use Serpstat's unique clusteringà featureà to break my long keyword list into groups of related queries. This gives a good mind-map of my future course topic and allows to come up with the course structure. Keep referring to your spreadsheet of chosen content assets to fill your spreadsheet with content you can use in each chapter. Tip: While creating your course structure, you'll discover some "gaps", i.e. sections that need to be included into your course which were not covered by you or your writers previously. These are great to add to your blog editorial calendar. This way your video course also helps you brainstorm content for your blog. Thus those new sections you'll be working on can be re-used as text content too! That being said, re-packaging goes both ways in this case: You use your existing content to create a course and you use your future course structure to create more content for your brand too! I don't have a set template for that but here's how my spreadsheet looks like when I start working on the course structure and identifying which other sections I need to start working on: It's also a good idea to turn to your actual customers and readers to collect some ideas from them. Ultimately, you want to know what real people are interested in learning about to better meet their needs. Consider: Sending a quick email to your email list inviting them to take a quick survey and help you structure your future course (promising a free access later on) Creating a Twitter and/or a Facebook poll (for both you can use ads to generate more replies) If you are collaborating with other team members on this project, consider consolidating multiple parts of it inside one common management platform. works well for this purpose to collaborate and organize projects. You can embed your Google spreadsheets within projects on a calendar: Add workflow checklists with Task Templates: Communicate with Discussion Threads: It's a useful way to keep everyone on board. Recommended Reading: How to Repurpose Content and Make the Most Out of Your Marketing Step 3. Put Together Video Content This step is still my learning curve: I am still working my way towards coming up with the best process. I do have some processes and tools to share but feel free to share more! 3.1. Turn existing articles into scripts and write new articles (and turn them into scripts too) Go through your spreadsheet and start working on those scripts. Keep the new format in mind: You need to be saying what you are showing. Let your team members work on their own scripts and do the voiceovers for their own chapters. Keeping more people involved will make your end product higher-quality. At this stage of going through everything before it goes into production, I also come up with extra downloadable content. I always want people to go home with some actionable tips and tangible rewards. So what I do: Where possible, turn articles into pdf downloads (to let people print the scripts out and follow video instructions easier) Adding some more visual content for course takers to download and refer to when then need. Branded downloadable PDFs are a great way to give your audience something to take home and get reminded of your brand on a regular basis. So at some point my course structure spreadsheet is going to look like this: Notes: You can re-use some of those handy PDF downloads you are creating on your blog too! Embed them on your blog to generate more subscribers and leads. Here areà a few plugins just for that. 3.3. Extract All Visual Content and Create More The beauty of this approach is that you can reuse as much content as you want. As someone who always adds lots of annotated screenshots to my articles, I always make sure I reuse those in my videos too, whenever I am describing a specific step. Of course, for videos, I usually need more visuals than I offer in my articles, so I use the following three tools to create more: Snagità for more annotated screenshots Visual.lyà to visualize stats (as graphs) and steps (as flowcharts) Bannersnackà for promotional in-video calls-to-action Those three are very easy to use and require no graphic design background. 3.3 Create Videos I use three types of videos for my articles 3.2.1. Screencasts The most common video type I am using is a screencast, especially since it comes perfectly inline with my writing style: I love actionable advice with lots of tools included. The two newer screencasting tools in my arsenal are: Filmora eCamm Both tools allow picture-in-picture capability to put the instructor's face right next to your podcast. It seems people stay with your instructional video longer if they see the instructor talking along. 3.2.2. Video Interviews I tend to invite at least one or two experts to my courses to feature actual stories illustrating tactics I talk about. I am tryingà Blue Jeansà to record interviews now. It also streams to Facebook Live, so you can first make a public show (and generate some leads through it), then edit the recording and re-use it in your course. 3.2.2. Quick entertaining videos Finally to prevent my students from being too bored, I break the routine with cool entertaining videos that list interesting stats, propose an action item or share a cool tool. It's a great way to add some diversity to the course flow. Animatronà is my tool for that and it lets me put together short yet useful and engaging videos literally in minutes. I cannot recommend it enough really. 4. Choose the Platform to Host and Sell Your Video Course Here you have two main options to choose from: 4.1. Host Your Course on a Third-Party Platform Pros: Easy set up, existing user base to sell your course to Cons: Monthly extra costs to pay for the platform For the lack of time, I havenââ¬â¢t tested too many platforms here. I tried Udemy (which is where I still host most of my courses) but their recent moved in dictating pricing model and limiting free courses have made me look elsewhere. By analyzing other options and their pricing, Uscreenà seemed like a winner. For a monthly price, you retain full control over your course, how you choose to charge your students and how often you want to get in touch with them (you can schedule automatic email campaigns to keep them engaged). You can even create your own smartphone app to give your students an additional medium to access your course. 4.2. Use DIY Approach to Set up the Course Section on Your Own Site Pros: Complete ownership of the product (Without depending on the third-party service), money saving (keeping cons in mind) Cons: Likely development budget involved, hard to set up on your own I have been considering this option for a while but couldnââ¬â¢t allocate enough time to plan and delegate the development part of it. Frankly, I like the idea but this looks like a huge project I havenââ¬â¢t had the time for. Here are a couple tutorial in case you decide to consider this approach: How to create sell an online course in WordPress: a step-by-step guide How to build your own courseà (DIY) Building an online course yourself? Check out these resources to learn how:Final Thoughts It's not an easy task to re-package old content into a new educational course but think about multiple benefits: Put your old effort to good use: You deserve that! Come up with more useful content on a related topic (and thus improve your own knowledge of the subject): Become a better expert! Put a solid content asset which quite possibly will position you as an expert and/or your business as a knowledge hub in the niche Offer your loyal customers something new and valuable: Give them a reason to love your business even more! There are many more benefits, including more opportunities that course sharing platforms can offer (like attracting new audience, creating a new channel for brand awareness building, etc.) The bottom line is this: It's hard. It takes time and effort. Don't start working on the course unless you are ready to invest both. But if you think you are ready, go for it! sylviawalker166http://www.blogger.com/profile/00500691335898595669noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6202733926113707264.post-81403213282028835452020-02-29T14:23:00.001-08:002020-02-29T14:23:03.121-08:00Agility and ability of ITC Ltd to adapt to its external environmentAgility and ability of ITC Ltd to adapt to its external environment In this particular analyses of ITC Limited we are going to look upon the the agility and ability of its growth and how it has been sustainable over a longer period of time. Depending on the type of the target customers and the geographical location, setting prices for the drug will impact its profitability. As far as pricing is concerned, people are not worried about the price and prefer to take prescribed drugs rather then non-prescribed drugs irrespective of the price of the drug. The traditional story of the contact explains the Europeans' eventual success by crediting the superior technology and military prowess of the Europeans. If the traditional story mentions luck at all, it is in explaining the Europeans' good fortune at finding such a sparsely populated "pristine" continent. While it is true that European ship technology was more sophisticated than that of the native peoples of the Americas, European conquering and exploration of the Americas was as much the result of three non-technological factors as of the sophistication of European ship technology. The first was Europe's relative backwardness in comparison to the Middle and Far East, the second was macro-evolutionary factors such as geography and relative lack of natural resources, and the third was plain dumb luck. Europe's biggest motivation for westward exploration was a desire to access trade with the Far East. It was the continent's relative backwardness that prevented their achieving this access through eastward movement. The land route to the Indies was blocked because of European inability to compete with the Turks, whose Ottoman Empire stretched across the main trade routes. Carlo Cippola remarks on the irony that as Europeans were expanding on the sea, "on her eastern border she was spiritlessly retreating under the pressure of the Turkish forces." (Note 1) As a result, European nations who wanted the ability to trade with China and the rest of the Indies for goods such as silk and spices were forced to find another route, since they were not strong enough militarily to fight the Turks on land and gain access through the Middle East. The second factor of backwardness that spurred westward exploration was the fragmented nature of Europe's political system. Because the continent was home to many separate and competing nation states, each country was forced to find its own route. This competition also increased the desire for Eastern goods, since these goods represented wealth and thus the ability to pay for expensive wars and triumph over neighboring states. If the European continent had been one united body politically, the desire for Eastern goods might have been less, and westward exploration of the Americas might never have occurred since all of Europe could have benefited from the Portuguese route to the Indies around Africa. sylviawalker166http://www.blogger.com/profile/00500691335898595669noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6202733926113707264.post-83479333189929199512020-01-15T22:41:00.001-08:002020-01-15T22:41:05.525-08:00Intern for Contrabandit.comFor the past 10 weeks of the Fall 2004 quarter, I've had the opportunity to work as intern for Contrabandit.com. Contrabandit ran by West Coast political and cultural editor of the Source Ryan Ford aims to provide an uninhabited voice for the hip-hop community as well as inform most of the Minority readers of politics, social and educational news and issues that occur in the world. As a History major, with my interest in Film and Television journalism, Contrabandit has allowed me to study contemporary and cultural history through the medium of Hip-Hop music. I looked at this internship as a starting point to acquiring work experience and possibly advancing into working within the field of entertainment journalism. But as an African-American student at UCLA, Contrabandit has allowed me to chronicle events within hip-hop as they happen and apply the broader historical significance as they occur. Being an African-American student, I view hip-hop as not only just a musical art form, but also as a voice and representation of an entire community. Unlike Jazz and R&B, Hip-Hop was a genre truly formed out of the African-American community after the post-civil rights movement and really feels uncorrupted by mainstream pop culture, where it sets the trend, instead of following the pack. When covering the medium of Hip-Hop music, I discovered how far reaching and expansive it has become and with my education at UCLA I've been able to view hip-hop from scholarly approach. The main theme I've noticed throughout my internship has been Hip-Hop music's growth and the changes that become of it as it has become an acceptable musical genre generating billions of dollars for the recording industry studios. The three biggest new stories that I was able to cover were the Eminem-Michael Jackson confrontation, Russell Simmons' Hip-Hop Summit Action Network's Presidential voter registration campaign, and the violent incident that occurred at the Vibe Awards. On the surface there just current events that needed to be covered to feel up space on the website, but with little probing they actually had far reaching and historical impact on the website, Hip-Hop music and with me in developing my critical writing skills and applying historical analysis from my UCLA course and history major. Jackson boots Eminem off BET (published October 12, 2004) That article resulted in an immediate phone call from my editor, as well as a lecture from him on the role and responsibility of a journalist. He proclaimed my article was blatantly bias and that I was leading the reader to take one point of view or side on the issue, but my job instead was to report the facts in a news story. Which, as my editor expressed to me, is something that's continues to occur since he beginning of entertainment, and its should not be allowed despite the fact Eminem makes a very good living off of doing ââ¬Å"Black Musicâ⬠much like Elvis, but again, difference being, Elvis never insulted a African-American musical icon like Michael Jackson, like Eminem has. I'm sure this issue will be glanced over, much like the controversy of the tapes being made public by Hip-Hop magazine ââ¬Å"the Sourceâ⬠, where what occurred was an investigation into why Eminem recorded these racist lyrics, but the Source was attacked for bringing this issue to the public. I must admit, just looking on the surface of the controversy I was quick to pass judgment upon BET for what I saw as its hypocrisy by stating it would not air videos disrespectful of any celebrity. Considering that's how they made their notoriety during the whole east coast-west coast beef that many attribute to the deaths of Tupac Shakur and Christopher ââ¬Å"Biggieâ⬠Wallace. But my editor expressed to me that I needed take it into context along with Eminem's previously uncovered studio recording where he's referring to African-American men as ââ¬Å"niggersâ⬠and African-American women as ââ¬Å"black bitchesâ⬠in a derogatory manner, is not possible to let this pass as artistic and playful expression. Again he's shown disrespect to a community that he continues to make million of dollars off of through doing their music, and can be argued is allowed to get away with such offensive behavior because he is a white. Not just with the African-American community, he's c ome under fire for his anti-gay remarks from the Gay and Lesbian community, but continues to get way with or at least not suffer any ill effects, whereas if a comparable black celerity had done similar offenses, they would find it difficult to maintain the type of celerity that Eminem enjoys. Working alongside Ryan with Contrabandit, I was able to view the controversy as bigger than Eminem just poking fun and having a laugh at Michael Jackson's expense, but greater historical, racial, and industry-wide ramification that this cause. The images of Eminem done up in ââ¬Å"Black faceâ⬠and portraying Jackson as buffoon and monster have long term consequences upon not only his image but that of African-Americans as they see one of their longest musical icons ridiculed in a way not only personally but racially offensive. And even more importantly with no consequences or accountability from Eminem. Russell Simmons; HSAN proclaims 21 million registered youth/minority voters for 2004 election(published November 4, 2004) In the aftermath of the national presidential election, it brought into prospective the efforts of voter registration among young, minority voters. The day after the election, a press release went out from Russell Simmons Hip-Hop Summit Action Network proclaiming that 21 million registered voters from 18-35 voted in the 2004 election, up from the 18 million that had voted in the 2000 election. Although that's encouraging it was disappointing to know that the voter registration campaign and awareness of the importance of this Presidential election that still George Bush was re-elected. But looking at the numbers and statistics shows a deeper issue and problem arising in America. Working with Contrabandit got me access to covering Russell Simmons' Hip-Hop Summit Action Network fundraiser at the Beverly Hills Hotel. Co-sponsored by Sony Playstation, the fundraiser was an entertainment industry party to bring awareness as well as funding to the organization for needed increased minority voter registration and education. Despite their efforts, the hip-hop community that was being courted by Simmons' HSAN paled in comparison to those of the voters in the Midwestern states. I always felt it was flawed to try to reach out to the hip-hop community as despite the growing numbers of minorities, who will soon grow to be an almost equal number to the majority of White Anglo-Saxon Protestant (WASP) constituents, some of those minorities are turning towards the conservative ideology. Also there is no unity among this minority group. With more WASP senior citizens living longer, that aging Considering that ultimately the Presidential election was determined by the Midwest, as the Democratic Party hasn't carried southern states in years, where as California and New York (with a combined 86 electoral votes) are perennial Democratic strongholds. Interestingly, the Midwest won the election for Bush and to me it was a shame that the backlash of gay marriages and abortion (as reported by news affiliates as the determining reason for voting for Bush) were more important than the situation in Iraq, terrorism, and the turbulent economy. I never want to question anyone's beliefs or morals, but gay marriages and abortion should be an individual's choice. Most important to take from this election is hopefully maintaining the interest of registered voters beyond this Presidential election, as there are more issues that will arise within the coming years before the 2008 election. In California on the ballot was the repealing of Proposition 187, the 3 strikes law. I understand the ââ¬Å"spiritâ⬠of 3 strikes, incarcerating repeat violent offenders from 25 to life sentence in jails, but continually in the years since passage as laws, many third strike offenders have been non-violent repeat offenders. Some argue the old adage don't commit the crime, won't do the time, but there's a bigger issue of privatized prisons making hundreds of millions of dollars off the incarceration of young prisoners and the prison system being made up of predominately African-American and Latino men. Conservative republican fan base are carrying the votes. Melee breaks out at the Vibe Awards(published November 17,2004) Lastly there was the violent altercation that occurred at the, the Vibe awards On November 16. During the four hour taping inside the hangar at the Santa Monica Airport an incident broke as Quincy Jones and Snoop Dogg were presenting an award to Hip-Hop producer Dr. Dre. An unidentified man attacked Dr. Dre, who was later assaulted y several members of his entourage and left him stabbed, later identified as rapper Young Buck by authorities. With the Vibe awards, it is yet another black eye on Hip-Hop as well as on black-themed award shows. The incident alone won't spell the end of Hip-Hop or these musical award shows, but my over all perspective is the necessity of these award shows. Within the entertainment industry its become a joke that there are too many awards shows. Yet when it comes to black themed award shows, they are usually relegated to lesser channels like UPN and BET, and more often than not are taped delayed events. Such events as the NAACP Image Awards, BET Awards, Soul Train Awards and Soul Train Lady of Soul, Vibe Awards, and the Source Awards all fall into this category. And incidents like this further perpetuate the stereotypes of the safety issue that constantly trouble hip-hop events. Amazingly events like the Rock the Bells concerts a week earlier at Anaheim Stadium that I covered for Contrabandit(and the Source)doesn't garner the positive press as when chaos ensues at televised events. At that event, despite some illegal drug use, the show went off without any violent altercation or incident, in front of a mostly diverse White, Latino, and Asian audience. Myself being the only amazed at this diversity and more so shows how far hip-hop music and their artist have developed with such a diverse crowd and the artist being so comfortable in front of them. But dealing with the coverage of black themed awards shows their two sides to the argument. Those that feel that its alright that the awards shows are tape delayed and marginally watched by non-blacks because its for Blacks and its best that we have a awards show tape delayed then none at all. As a matter of fact, the NAACP dubs its annual awards ââ¬Å"Black America's answer to the Oscars, Emmy's, Grammy's, and Pulitzer, as it continues to honor overlook performances by African-American entertainers that the mainstream Hollywood community pass over. But on the other hand there is the argument that by not being a live broadcast somehow relegates it as meaningless shows that don't really count. For starters, with most of the United States having access to the numerous channels available through cable and satellite television, and at least 5-10 music themed channels, viewing music, film and television entertainers is a lot more accessible then in any era prior to the 1990's. Before then, it was rare being able to view entertainers outside of movies, therefore making movie and television award shows the only place to see them. Likewise for most, seeing their favorite musical artist perform ââ¬Å"liveâ⬠at awards show provided a free experience to catch them performing if they were unable to go to a concert to see them performing and this is remembering that MTV didn't debut till 25 years ago in 1981. But with the emergence of MTV, BET, VH1, and even E!, it has provided a near 24 hour access to view these entertainers and even more so, know them beyond their music or the characters they portray on screen and films. Awards was more than just a night of honoring actors and musician, but that rare opportunity to view them live and has human. Speaking with my editor Ryan, he allowed me to go further with this topic and try to give our readers some prospective and insight behind awards show and why they exist. Working for the Source, he gave me some inside information about the motives behind events such as the Vibe, Source, BET, and Blockbuster Awards shows: MONEY! By organizing one awards event for on night, the sponsorship and advertising for the event generates more money in one night then the magazines do for the entire year. Even the awards presentations are staged, as more then likely the winner is determined by the artist that will appear, more than who deserves to win. When you look at the BET, Source, and Vibe awards, what they provide great revenue and backlash towards to the mainstream (white) award show are not able to properly honor the hip-hop artists that were annually disregarded for their work. Honestly for the most part the Grammy's and American Music Awards do base their nomination, and I'm sure, there awards recipient on mainstream success. But whereas the NAACP Image awards and Soul Train music awards were created to make up for these lack honors to Black performers, these proliferation of the other awards show, seems to be purely done as promotion. The experience that I take from my time working with Contrabandit, has been invaluable in applying the classroom knowledge I acquired from UCLA towards real world situations. Without the historical significance and ramification of events as they occurred and relating them to past events, I would not have been able to elaborate upon them in my writing for the website or convey the importance to my audience at the site. sylviawalker166http://www.blogger.com/profile/00500691335898595669noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6202733926113707264.post-55353041297029294822020-01-07T19:04:00.001-08:002020-01-07T19:04:03.664-08:00Wars of the Roses Overview and History sylviawalker166http://www.blogger.com/profile/00500691335898595669noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6202733926113707264.post-35369915628166006182019-12-30T15:30:00.001-08:002019-12-30T15:30:04.882-08:00Exegesis on the Story of the Good Samaritan - 832 Words Anonymous October 26, 2012 Mr. ------ Luke 10:25-36 The passage of Luke 10:25-36 is an essential story because it applies to every Christian today the same way, but in order for us to follow the example Jesus made, we must first understand what the story would have meant to the Jews in Jesusââ¬â¢ time. The first step in understanding the story of the Good Samaritan is to understand the relationship between the Jews and the Samaritans of the time. The Samaritans were considered unclean by the Jews, because they saw the Samaritans as a corruption of Godââ¬â¢s chosen people, therefore the Jews were not supposed to make contact with the Samaritans whatsoever. Not only were the Samaritans considered unclean, the Jews would have seen them asâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦Jesus was instructing the Jews to be an example to the nations by loving all people the way Christ did, which is why he changed the Jewsââ¬â¢ understood meaning of neighbor, from someone who was righteous, to all men. The two religious people were una ble to do what God wanted from them in the parable, because they were unable to look past the law for the greater good, unlike the Samaritan, who was up and ready to help because he was not blinded by obligations that would cause him a slight disadvantage, because what was important to him was helping the broken man on the road. This parable is a great example of Christââ¬â¢s love for us, since we are all corrupted with sin, yet he loves us and is merciful to each of us, although it is not deserved. Bibliography 1. Technology is changing everyday, and will forever be a staple in our lives. The effect that technology has on our children has brought on some concerns and some praises. Children these days have no choice but to some how be influenced by the ever growing technology in our societies. Our common concern has been that although digital technology has boosted childrenââ¬â¢s talent for multitasking, their ability to process information deeply may be deteriorating (Carpenter, 2010). Many people have a wide range of opinions on if technology is having a positive influence on our children or a negative, there is a vast amount of evidence to support both of these arguments. Technology can refer toâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦Gentile, 2004). The effects of both violent and non-violent video game playing can be determined by the amount of time playing the video game and by the content of the games being played. The content of th e games being played could definitely have a factor in how a child performs in school, and how aggressive they are towards peers and teachers. Obviously if a child is playing hours upon hours of violent video games, this can lead to them acting out violence and having no consequences for it. If a child took the time that they played video games a week and used that time to be engaged in reading, homework or even a creative activity weââ¬â¢d have less issues with our childrenââ¬â¢s school performances. Parents should really be monitoring how long their child is playing video games, but this doesnââ¬â¢t always happen. A child who plays video games for long periods of time could also build up a social wall, become a loner. It is important for children to interact with other children in order to help develop their social skills, which without will make it very difficult to make it in this world. At the age children start playing video games, it is hard for them to distinguish w hat is reality and what is not. So in some cases the violent acts in video games could make the child believe the world is a scary place. Ruby Turnip is a closet racist, she loves to categorize people and put them in boxes. It is the environment she is surrounded with that influences her actions. We will write a custom essay sample on Ruby Turpin Essay or any similar topic only for you Order Now But the influence around her is not invincible. Ruby Turnip has been given the capability to break out of her mold and become something more. She has been given by God a chance to become a better Christian. A culture and way of life are engraved into your being from the beginning of your birth. A hypocritical culture, like that of the South, creates an interesting conflict of ideas and beliefs. The ordinary Southerner is a Christian who airships God every Sunday; one believes that at the end of time, God will judge them by looking at all his lifetimeââ¬â¢s deeds, both good and bad. But he is also born into an environment that has a lot of prejudice. These opposing values, one symbolizing charity and brotherhood and the other representing an elitist culture, are taught and engraved in the South. Ruby Turnip believes she is a good Christian women but participates in the old southern pastime of racism. She believes that she is not racist, but is shocked to see blacks leading the way into heaven. She treats the black helpers like idiots, putting on a ask to cover her true prejudices and beliefs. It takes the spontaneous outburst of Mary Grace for Ruby Turnip to be shaken out of her closed point of view. She cannot understand how she is both a Christian and a warthog from hell. At first she cannot understand why, not seeing her own hypocrisy and pharisaic attitude. But at the end of the story, Ruby Turnip has a vision of the procession to heaven with those she considered lesser in front of her to heaven. It is a cultural shock. Everything she was made to believe in is false. Everything she has learned about the world and its society is false. The only Ruth she now has is the Divine Truth, the revelation from God. It is up to Ruby Turnip to use this new found truth as way to become a better Christian ore forsake this new divine revelation. It is possible for Ruby Turnip to overcome and triumph over the social norms she faces in the depraved and biased culture she faces in the South. She, unlike the other characters we encounter in the story, ponders over the caste question. In one sense Ruby Turnip is better than her husband, Claude, and most other Southerners. She constantly ponders and obsesses over the classification of people as she may have a guilty conscience. Her constant thinking might make her able to come to terms with her own attitude. Claude is a man that accepts the bias culture that he has grown and lived with. Moreover, he neither questions nor ponders about the social question he is surrounded with. He chooses to ignore it. On the other hand, Turnip falls asleep pondering this question. Quote. Her nonstop mulling over this question shows that it is possible for her to grow into a more perfect Christian. The idea that while others do not think about the bias they have grown with, Ruby Turnip thinks about this social norm every day. Ruby Turnip t her core is a person with contradicting beliefs: a Christian, and a judgmental Southern. She is a person capable of being apathetic to the plight of others. She agrees with the spirit of the song. The gospel songââ¬â¢s message ââ¬Å"You go to your church / And Iââ¬â¢ll go to mine / But weââ¬â¢ll all walk along together Weââ¬â¢ll help each other outâ⬠(496), which is played in the reception room, States that all though we are all different We are all Christians and that we will all walk together hand in hand to heaven and ultimately to God. This shows that her Christian beliefs of equality is a strong and integral part of her being. Ruby Turnipââ¬â¢s philosophy in life is to help others. She makes it her life goal to help those that are in need, who need a hand. She never spared herself when she found somebody in need, whether they were white or black, trash or decentââ¬â¢ (497). It is her duty as a morally upright Christian to not see others for what they are but for who they are. Ruby Turnip knows that before death, we are all equal. She dreams that ââ¬Å"they [people] were all crammed in together in a box car, being ridden of to be put in a gas ovenà ¢â¬ (492) This graphic imagery references the holocaust when the Jews were crammed into box cars and transported. O camps. This scene symbolizes that before death and ultimately God we are all equal. That no matter our station or position in life we are, before Godââ¬â¢s judgment we are equal. Ruby Turnip although a biased and judgmental person, she is not morally at fault. The definition of a sin is any act regarded as such a transgressions especially a willful or deliberate violation of some religious or moral principle. Her sin or transgression is no a deliberate act against Godââ¬â¢s will. She believes in the truth that she has been taught: that racism and judgmental doesnââ¬â¢t go against or oppose the divine will of God. The environment around her has affected her to the point of not realize her own moral faults and defects. This is the reason why she has trouble grappling over Mary Graceââ¬â¢s revelation: that she, Ruby Turnip, a believer in the grace of God is a warthog from hell. Her judgmental and racism can only be considered a culpable sin when she encounters Mary Grace. Mary Grace is the first oppositions to the beliefs Ruby Turnip has grown up with. She is the only one to go against the social norms that have been imposed by the southern society. Mary Grace represents an enlightened, more modern world view on societal bigotry. It takes the grace of God to knock some human development into her. Ruby Turnip is not culpable for her sin because of her ignorance. Her ignorance of a more Christian point of view of the world, blocks her path to God. But as soon as God reveals to her the truth, Ruby Turnip has a choice: either accept this revelation or turn away from God and believe in the society beliefs. ââ¬Å"For unto whomsoever much is given, of him shall much be required; and to whom much was committed, more will be asked of him. But he that knew not, and did commit things worthy of stripes, shall be beaten with few stripesâ⬠(Luke 12:48). Those who are not given much are not expected to give back, they are punished less severely than those who much is given but donââ¬â¢t give back to God are punished to the most limits. ââ¬Å"For as many of you as were baptized into Christ have put on Christ. There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is no male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus. And if you are Chrismââ¬â¢s, then you are Abrahamââ¬â¢s offspring, heirs according to promise: (Galatians 3:26-29). We are all brothers and sisters with Christ and because Of this We are the heirs to the promise of eternal salvation with God. Answer: The report is based on Delhi Metro Rail, India. The following report evaluates a real life project and studies the feature of the project and its various shortcomings related to the project. The report studies the concept of project management and uses the application of stakeholders theory and theory of management. The report highlights the various shortcomings and challenges faced during the different stages of the project. The report highlights the various issues like land acquisition issues and sheds critical light into the arguments between the selection of elevated corridors and underground corridors. The reports shows the importance of stakeholders and also highlights the criticism faced from the public regarding issues like deforestation, noise pollution and development of project. Introduction In the current generation there are various projects that are undertaken by different sectors to meet specific goals and objectives. There has to be a clear structured path, which is involved in meeting these goals and objectives. Management is a disciplinary body, which makes a clear strategy needed to be adopted for reaching goals and objectives. Project management is a discipline that combines initiation of a project, planning, implementation, controlling and signing off the work of a group regarding a specific project. This helps the team in achieving specific goals and objectives of the project. Project management is hinged on the general functions and principles of management, which are planning, organizing, staffing, controlling and coordinating. It is also a part of other management practices like financial forecasting and estimation, organisational behaviour, management science and cost and budgeting elements. It is an amalgamation and derivative of different body of managem ent (Schwalbe 2015). The topic chosen for the research paper is the project related to Delhi Metro Rail. The study critically analyses the struggles and challenges encountered during the different phases of the study. The study will shed critical light into the different application of management functions and theories in the quest of overcoming the challenges and difficulties phased during the different phases of the project. The relevance of different theories like theory of management and stakeholders theory are utilised in the research paper, in order to establish a comprehensive and cohesive study of the project. Delhi Metro Rail, India India is a developing country with increasing population. The rise in population tends to bring a lot of issues to the fore. Some of the issues are traffic snag and environmental issues. The increasing number of environmental issues led the government and town planners to evaluate the alternative in terms of transportation system to overcome this impending danger. In such circumstances, the metro rail system was advocated as an alternative means of transport. This was important as it reduced environmental pollution and functioned separately without providing a hindrance to the traffic system. The Delhi Metro Rail is a project of the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation Limited. The project is a joint venture between Delhi Metro Rail Corporation Limited and Ministry of India and along with the Delhi Government. The primary focus of this project was to provide Delhi with an alternative source of transport and consequently assist the country in the economic development (Pemsel and Wiewiora 2013). There are five elements in a project management, which comprises of initiation, planning, execution, controlling and closing. These five elements form the basic pillar of functioning of the management of the project. The Delhi Metro Rail Project has four phases in the total duration of the project. The phases are termed as phase 1, phase 2, phase 3 and phase 4. These 4 phases form the major stages that are involved from the beginning to the completion of the project. It is to be noted that each stage has its own separate issues and challenges that the managing body has to tackle and overcome. The Delhi Metro Rail is underlined with key and strategic issues at various levels of the project. One of the keys issues and challenges in the Delhi Metro Rail project are the assessment and he understanding of the preliminary activities to be taken before the execution of such projects. Understanding the significance of the role of a project planner and the selecting an efficient project planner was one of the key issues to be assessed. Application of key management concepts like stakeholder management and team management was difficult in the Delhi Metro Rail project. Creating a proper work culture was one of the key areas of concern and a major challenge in the Delhi Metro Rail project. Assessing and understanding the importance of stakeholders and managing the needs of stakeholders are another area of concern during the project. Understanding and assessing these key areas of concern poses as a challenge to the project. Addressing and providing remedial solutions to such areas of concern is one of the challenging tasks. The economic state and development of the country is one of the criteria that have to be recognised in understanding the challenges of the project. Economic developing countries generally have to deal with funding issues relating to a project (Pemsel and Wiewiora 2013). Population explosion and increasing traffic issues can turn out to be a hindrance to a large infrastructure project like the Delhi Metro Rail Project. Funding of the Project Usually such large infrastructure projects suffer from funding shortcomings. In a developing country like collection of fund turns out to be a major barrier to the execution and completion of such projects. In the case of Delhi Metro rail project, the funding process of this project was without much fuss. During the different phases of the funding project, the project faced many limitation and shortcomings since the borrowed to equity capital ratio was estimated at 70:30. The majority portion of the fund was of borrowed fund and this increased loan repayment burden on the project and also impacted the depreciation aspect of the materials used in the project. Initial and Planning Stage Elevated vs Underground metro corridor One of the major hindrances, which the project faced, was the evaluation between elevated or underground establishment of the metro rail corridor. The metro rail project included many stakeholders and it is very critical to assess the stakeholder management concept in this project. According to this concept, the stakeholders refer to all this entities that hold a substantial or some amount interest in a particular endeavour. Therefore, during the initial stage of the project it was vital to notice that the stakeholders were not only the creditors of the project but a major portion of it represented the social community that would reap the benefit of the project. According to the stakeholders theory, it is a vital aspect regarding the management and safeguarding of the interest of the stakeholders, because they hold a major key to the successful implementation of the project. In the planning stage, it was noticed that the project received strong resistance and complaint from the stakeholders and it led to an incessant debate regarding elevated and underground metro rail. Initially the idea and plan of an elevated metro rail received strong clash and resistance since the elevated metro rail would pose as a threat to the privacy in their lives and it was also a potent cause of noise pollution. It was also opposed by the town planners and engineers since the elevated metro rail would hamper and severely affect the aesthetic of the city and also cause major hamper to the sight of the monumental buildings. These were the arguments against elevated construction of the metro rail corridor. The visibility blockage was not acceptable to the social community. It was also cited that there would be irrevocable micro climatic change and it would lead to heating issues. It was also stated that there could be major technical difficulties during the construction phase an d it was strongly opposed by a major section of the stakeholder (Gutierrez and Hussein 2013). However, the government lashed out regarding the concept of underground metro rail. The government were the fund provider and a member of the joint venture. Therefore, it was observed that the government strongly dissuaded from the fact and opposed the idea of underground metro rail corridors. The government stated there were ample and significant techno-economic benefits with the construction of the elevated metro rail corridor. The cost of underground metro rail would seem as an irrational option since it would cost twice as much compared to the construction. There were financial and safety concern with the underground construction of the corridor. The cost of constructing an elevated metro rail was $235 billion, compared to the underground cost, which was $635 billion. Therefore, these arguments formed a major hindrance in the construction of the metro rail project (Gutierrez and Hussein 2013). Improper estimation and forecast traffic demand The Delhi Metro Rail is a transportation project. The financial feasibility of any transportation project is the degree of approximation from the traffic demand estimation. These forecast and estimations provide the justification and the rationales of the decisions taken in the project. These forecasts and estimation form a vital tool in the planning stages of the project. However, it can be viewed that these forecasts are hardly correctly and suffer from various deviation in the reports. It has been seen in the project, that the forecast of traffic estimation was suffering from a lot of deviation, which gave an unfair picture of the project and also led to loopholes in the decision making process of the project (Meng 2012). It led to creation of flaws in the decision making aspect of the project and also derailed the project to a degree. In the case of underestimation of traffic estimation, it would lead to chaos and inefficiency and would also lead to further investment of capital and unstable financial condition of the project. In the Delhi Metro Rail project, there was wrong estimation in the traffic forecasting (Crawford 2014). The Delhi Metro Rail was found to be suffering from overestimation and inflated estimation traffic forecasts. There was difficulty in estimation the passenger figure. It was initially estimated that the passengers per day would be 1.5 million per day, which was later revaluated to 0.7 million per day. It was revised and reassessed during every phase level and this fluctuation in forecasting of the demand of the services led to difficulty in estimating the feasibility of the project and the future prospect of the project according to the demand received from the public. After the end of phase 1, the demand for the service was only 20% of the estimated demand forecasting. The traffic forecasting and demand estimation was one of the most difficult and tricky tasks during the planning process (Meng 2012). Land Acquisition Issues Land Acquisition issues are a conventional and one of the most common issues received by any mega transportation projects especially in the metro rail projects. One has to keep the stakeholders theory in mind while evaluating and studying The Delhi Metro Rail project. The project has to keep the socio- economic benefits of the project that the project. The project could not afford to implement the project at the cost of the social community. One of the most common issues during the planning and pre-execution stage was land acquisition issues. The economic concept and definition of scarcity and demands needs no introduction. The demand is incessant and insatiable but the resources to feed it are scarce. Delhi is a heavily populated city, which increasing trend of population and busy life schedule. The availability of land in such a densely populated is scarce and therefore, land acquisition in such scenario is usually resisted from the public. The high scale land acquisition is a feature of metro rail projects and in the case of this project the high scale land acquisition would not have met positive remarks. The project manager had to make evaluations and assessment, which would keep the land acquisition as minimum as possible. This would not disrupt the socio-economic benefit that would be important to the social community. The Resettlement and rehabilitation impacts had to be considered and special considerations had t o be made to the fact that how the project affected families (Leach 2014). There were decision taken in which the metro corridors were prepared alongside a road or at the centre of it. This was planned keep the lack acquisition issues in mind and to keep the land acquisition minimum as possible. Excess land acquisition led to excess material and property use, which not only led to a hike in the overall cost of the project but also led to social unrest. This was one of the main major constraints in the project. Execution Stage According to the project management concept, the planning stage is followed by the execution stage. The project received a considerable amount of constraints in the execution stage. This is the stage, where the implementation of the plans and schedules of the project are carried out. Metro rail projects have faced serious issues and difficulties in the execution stages and it creates a snag and a hindrance to the progress of the project. Deforestation Growing environmental awareness in the current age leads to constraints in the project implementation stage. In the Delhi Metro Rail project, one of the issues faced during the construction phase was deforestation. According to sources, the project led to more than 25,000 trees being felled. The loss of tree cover was one of the issues circulating facing the project. The social activists and environmentalist strongly condemned this activity. The large scale infrastructure project required cutting down of trees for the metro corridors and the selected landscape was devoured of trees for the constructing process (Heldman 2013). In the current age, where environmental issues are escalating at a rampant pace, deforestation received strong resistance from department of forests regarding the strategies and tactics of the Delhi Metro rail Corporation Limited. As a measure to offset this adverse practice, it was decided that afforestation would combat the deforestation method adopted for the project. It was decided that for every one tree cut there would ten trees planted. This was a hectic practice that needed to be followed to maintain social rest and to reduce the detrimental effect on the environment. Thus, the deforestation issue was an impactful and important issue that the project had to face during the execution and construction phase (Crawford 2014). Noise Pollution Noise pollution was on one of the main issue that the project had to face. The construction sites were near commercial and residential sites and the noise pollution was one of the significant issues that the project had to face. The use of bulky and construction equipment and machineries led to increased noise pollution and strong vibrations. The vibrations caused severe discomfort and also the severity of the vibrations led to cracks being developed in building. This caused deterioration of the building and monument structures. The sound of rails on the wheels during the construction period caused major noise pollution and hampered the ambience of the social community (Heldman 2013). Generators, cooling fans and engines contributed majorly to the noise pollution level in the city. The vibrations and noise pollution disrupted the ambience and the social setting of the local community and gathered strong backlash from the community. As a result of this, new methods and technologies were applied to curb the noise pollution level and the vibration effect. This was a major issue circulating the project (Schwalbe 2015). Property Development One of the criticisms given to the project was the development of properties along the metro corridor. It was viewed that the land acquired during the metro rail project was provided to them at a concessional rate. However, the public strongly reacted to the issue of development of property on the given land by the governing body of the project. It was seen as shift from the primary focus of the project to a total commercial outlook. The construction of metro rail project is a major public infrastructure projects and the development of property was viewed as typical real estate business outlook and was strongly condemned by the public. The grounds of criticism were circulating the fact that the attention would shift from the project to mainly developing the properties. In this scenario, the project was strongly criticised with the development of property on the acquired land, which were purchased at a rebate value for the purpose of the construction of the project (Leach, L.P., 2014) . However, it was pointed out by scholars that with the lack of fund in the longer run, these real estate activities were the source of fund for the project to keep it technically feasible in the long run. Controlling and Completion Stage Traffic Disruption The construction sites in the project were mainly near the road sites and it acquired major portion of the land leading to major traffic disruption. The total usable areas of the road were narrowed as a result of the project and it led to chaos and disruption of traffic. Frequent traffic jams were noticed at peak office hours and the traffic disruption was a major concern for the project as there were high chances of accidents occurring in this process. The monsoon season further compounded the issues with water logging at the construction sites and chaotic scenes at the traffic scene (Pemsel and Wiewiora 2013). Maintaining Strong Work Culture and organizational behaviour One of the key concepts that need to be understood is team management and strong team force. In order to induce this, it is important that a strong work culture is developed. Managing a team is a difficult task and it underlines the various aspects of different individuals working together as a group. The project suffered from visible constraints in the form of punctuality. The workers, who were a part of the project, were barely punctual and it led to delay in the different phases of the project. Instilling strong discipline and quick decision making skill turned out to be a major challenge in the project. Work culture and organization behaviour have a major impact on the successful implementation of the project. Maintaining physical fitness of the workers was a tricky thing. The efficiency regarding the understanding of the stakeholders needs including the public and contractors among the employees was not an easy task (Meng 2012). Conclusion On concluding this report, it can be inferred that the Delhi Metro Rail, India was one of the biggest infrastructure project. Like every other real life project, this project had derived concepts of various primary concepts like stakeholders theory and team management and theory management. The project functions on the basic concept of project management. Various issues in different stages are observed in the project. Demand forecasting and the deviations in the estimation were one of the biggest shortcomings of the project. It can be seen that the project suffers from issues in the form of land acquisition, deforestation and noise pollution, which occurred during the executive and implementation stages of the project. Maintaining work culture and avoiding disruption in traffic were some of the issues during the controlling stages. However, it can be viewed that the project did overcome the challenges and the Delhi Metro Rail project was a successful endeavour in term of transportati on project.
